New Hampshire, USA, September 19, 1961 – Married couple Betty and Barney Hill experienced the first widely publicized alien abduction event as they through the heavily forested area along Route 3, south of Lancaster, New Hampshire. Although it was late and very dark, Barney Hill reported being inexplicably compelled to turn down a side road toward a light in the sky both had observed. There, they said they found six small humanoid beings who appeared to be waiting for the Hills. Betty reported some medical testing, including a needle inserted through her navel.
